It's been a while since I've posted anything..
The July Daring Bakers' challenge was hosted by Nicole at Sweet Tooth. She chose Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Cookies and Milan Cookies from pastry chef Gale Gand of the Food Network.
We could choose either one of the recipes or both. I chose the Milan Cookies recipe thinking it would be the easier one of the two recipes, but mastering those cookies proved to be quite challenging. They don't call it the "Daring Bakers' Challenge" for nothing. :)
Some of the ingredients (lemon extract and orange zest) had to be eliminated off the bat due to food allergies and I must admit I tinkered quite a bit with the amount of powdered sugar going into the batter as I found the 2.5 cups to be an exorbitant amount of sugar for my taste.
For some unknown reason I've never liked that much sugar in my cookies, pastries or any kind of desserts.
All in all it was an interesting challenge, the cookies were edible, I got some lovely images out of it and some inspiration to look for a more balanced Milan Cookies recipe. :)

Note: If you don't want to make your own marshmallows, you can cut a large marshmallow in half and place on the cookie base. Heat in a preheated 350-degree oven to slump the marshmallow slightly, it will expand and brown a little. Let cool, then proceed with the chocolate dipping.

Your Milans and the photos of them turned out beautiful! I agree about the sugary sweetness. Baked goods should be sweet, but not sugar coma inducing!
Now this isn't fair...a few minutes ago I saw a photo on another blog from a chocolate shop...now you torture me with these delectable treats....WAAAAAAH! I want some...sniff sniff.
:) They look and sound delightful.
Laurie :) you can actually make some.. :))
Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment..
Lisa, oh, I'm so glad you agree... It's pretty hard to find a good recipe where I don't have to tinker with sugar amounts.
tks for your visit, your recipe and your yummy photos
Nice dyptich, I mainly like how the spot of colour on the right offsets the minimal composition on the left. And your cookies look very tasty :)
Beautiful cookies. I really love your photograph, too. Gorgeous! :)
I missed this challenge even though I had bought all the ingredients and everything. Yours turned out so wonderfully!
I LOVE your photography by the way. :)
Em, .. oh.. thank you.. I'm so glad you enjoy the photography ..
To tell you the truth I don't think you've missed much with this challenge..
From reading all the other blogs, I think the mallows were more fun than the milan cookies.
